Reflexology: A Gift for Your Feet & Your Whole Body!!!

How kind are you to your feet? We call 'em our "dogs," but do we treat them as the beloved members of the family, like many do their furry friends?

Alice was certainly concerned about her feet as she grew taller and taller in the 2nd chapter of Lewis Carroll's famous tale:

"'Good-bye, feet!' (for when she looked down at her feet, they seemed to be almost out of sight, they were getting so far off). 'Oh, my poor little feet, I wonder who will put on your shoes and stockings for you now, dears? I'm sure I shan't be able! I shall be a great deal too far off to trouble myself about you: you must manage the best way you can; —but I must be kind to them,' thought Alice, 'or perhaps they won't walk the way I want to go! Let me see: I'll give them a new pair of boots every Christmas.'

And she went on planning to herself how she would manage it. 'They must go by the carrier,' she thought; 'and how funny it'll seem, sending presents to one's own feet! And how odd the directions will look!'"

I see great wisdom in Alice's thinking. Just from the perspective of my feet carrying me every where I choose to go, it seems being nice to them is more of a necessity than a chore. Who needs feet talking back?

Did you know that every organ, gland and part of your body is mirrored on your feet? When there are challenges in your body they show up in your feet, and when your feet have been mistreated that well may show up in the rest of your body. Reflexology may be your perfect solution. You and your feet and all the rest of you may be ecstatically happy that you finish reading this post, and take the suggested "steps" to be kind to your feet!

Reflexology - Oasis of His Healing, Loving Presence

In reflexology a scenario like this happens often. Phone rings. Person calling is wondering about reflexology and what it will do for them. They may have multiple health challenges for which they are seeking relief. Many times they have been referred by another complementary health care professional who believes that reflexology may be a very helpful addition to their journey toward health and wellness. I love these calls. They open up opportunities for amazing discussions and offering care and encouragement.

What continuously amazes me after these dialouges, is that God in His wisdom and knowledge of each individual and their challenges, has entrusted them to my hands. What a huge responsibility and privilege!

I am always humbled by the opportunity before me. My compassion generally kicks in first. I may ask questions that will cause them to think about their state of health on a holistic level (body, mind & spirit). Lots of those require no verbal answer. I may just let them talk and share what's on their mind, and what they hope reflexology will do for them. I pray, however, that it leads them to feel my sensitivity to what's happening in their lives and that they are speaking with someone who cares about them specifically.

In every reflexology session my gratitude is overwhelming in that I have much more to count on than my own humanly limited resources. Working with each individual in each reflexology session is an acknowledgment over and over again of His healing power moving through my hands at the directive of His Holy Spirit living within me. The positive outcomes often seen are the proof to me of "Divine" intervention.

Setting up my little oasis for reflexology sessions, His Healing, Loving Presence is always invited to be present and active... in "this place and in and through my touch." How thankful, blessed, and humbled I am to acknowledge He is faithfully there every time!!!

Whole Creation in the Foot: A Reflexologist's Perspecitive

It took the whole of Creation To produce my foot, my each feather: Now I hold Creation in my foot.
Ted Hughes

What a beautiful quote I came upon this morning. As a reflexologist, and especially one that is just completing certification in Maternity Reflexology as well, it holds so much significance I'm bounding over to share. Praying I will articulate my thoughts with understanding for you the reader.

To begin please allow me to share from the Psalms:
You are the one who put me together inside my mother's body, and I praise you because of the wonderful way you created me. Everything you do is marvelous! Of this I have no doubt.
~~Psalm 139:13-14
Now add to this a brief definition of reflexology. Reflexology is based on the belief that every organ, gland, and part of your body is reflected in the feet. The reflexologist uses specific hand, finger, and thumb techniques to address these reflex points encouraging all systems of the body to greater balance and deep relaxation.

Only The Creator -- the One True God of the universe -- could even conceive of such an incredible plan. In the beginning when man went without shoes and traveled on foot, each step was an opportunity for those reflexes to be addressed by the earth it touched.

Over many centuries (earliest evidences dating back to 2500 B.C.) man has learned to work with the foot to encourage it toward health and wellness in a most non-invasive manner. To do this, he has gleaned knowledge of how each point on the foot resonates with a part of the body, and all working as a whole may work to restore health and wellness. Even that this may occur is the healing power of The Creator, the Great Physician, flowing through the hands of the practitioner allowing an opportunity for the body of the receiver to work for restoration of challenges it may be facing.

When the new incoming soul is conceived within the woman's body and is there knit together (even as the Psalmist spoke), a reflexion of that new life is very visible upon the woman's feet. She so clearly holds "creation" within her womb and her feet.

It is so amazing to me as a reflexologist every time I am allowed to be the vessel God uses to encourage healing and wellness within the body, mind, and spirit of another. What I bring to the table is a learned skill set, a willing heart (and pair of hands), and an ear tuned to the direction of His guiding influence for each person He entrusts to my care.

Each unique individual is His Creation, and every outcome is in His hands. Each miracle I witness is beautiful and amazing. Everyday I am humbled that He chooses to use me in this way in the lives of His creation.
