Yep, that's what we're decorating! The cute and sparkly footprint ornament will be yours to keep. Each one will have a number on the back to indicate your special gift. We have a bunch!!! Their values? From a dollar or two to a Gift Certificate for a one hour reflexology session (value $65). And lots and lots in between.

We've been saying in anticipation of the holidays, "Everyone's holiday stress level would be well served by weekly sessions. Schedule at least one for yourself during the holidays. You will be so thankful for the relaxation, respite, and oasis you allowed yourself in the midst of the hurried-ness of all the preparations -- a redirect of focus for the moment to ponder what's really important about the season."
We are looking forward to wishing you Holiday Blessings in person in the next few weeks! Memphis Friends, a simple phone call (901-674-3934) or an email will reserve your spot(s).

Green Facts for Footsteps In Eden Reflexology
Does Footsteps In Eden Reflexology in Bartlett, TN, have eco-friendly practices, and what are they? While I have been pondering a blog post on this topic for awhile now, I was smacked in the face with it this morning as I was registering my business with Angie's List. That was a 'surprise' question to me in that 'setting,' but a great one as well to make me think how to answer. Kudos to Angie's List for asking!
First of all, don't you just love the green footprint?!?! How perfect to find that little jewel for a post on eco-practices in my reflexology business. Just love it! Now on to what Footsteps In Eden Reflexology does do to be green.
- Just the very nature of reflexology makes it a VERY GREEN business. There's really nothing actually required for this therapy except a client and a reflexologist's hands (OK, they will need to be attached to the reflexologist - LOL).
- I work from my home. Situated in a park like setting, it is surrounded by GREEN.
- Products that are organic and sustainably produced are used whenever possible. These include, but are not limited to lotions and aromatherapy essential oils.
- Paper waste is greatly minimized by reusable linens and hand towels.
- All linens are laundered with eco-friendly products.
- The Thieves® line of products from Young Living,* provides anti-bacterial, anti-septic, anti-fungal protection for cleaning routines, personally and within the space. Thieves® products are all natural and plant-based, with no added toxic ingredients.
- Recently, we invested in a BioCerra pitcher. This allows us to provide our clients with filtered high pH, electrolyte added water in their own cup or a biodegradable to go cup. This is allowing us to eliminate the use of plastic water bottles.
- Our space is located where heat and air are only used when necessary for clients' comfort, saving precious energy resources.

Staying Healthy with Thieves®
We've had a few cooler days, the kids are back in school in many areas of the country, and you may have thought about fighting germs and colds and flu bugs in the months ahead.
In our home we have found the Thieves® line of products from Young Living™ to be most helpful. We clean with it, we diffuse it, we wash with it and more. My clients often comment on the fresh and clean fragrance of my hand soap. It is diffused at my husband's office. While not everyone there may be in agreement about its effectiveness, the fact that when it runs out they ask for more, speaks for itself. The purse sprays are a healthy option for spraying shopping cart handles, and use in public restrooms. There is also toothpaste, mouthwash and hand sanitizers -- all made with wholesome, good-for-you ingredients. Thieves® has also been shown to be highly effective in removing mold and mold spores. Here's a little history of this great line. It just may surprise you to learn of its origins.
The entire Thieves® line is available at www.richinoils.com, where you have the opportunity to learn much more about the high potential of therapeutic grade essential oils.

"A blend of highly antiviral, antiseptic, antibacterial, anti-infectious essential oils, Thieves® was created from research of a group of 15th-century thieves who rubbed oils on themselves to avoid contracting the plague while they robbed the bodies of the dead and dying. When apprehended, these thieves disclosed the formula of herbs, spices, and oils they used to protect themselves in exchange for more lenient punishment."

Cumulative Benefits of Reflexology
How often do you recommend that I schedule my reflexology appointments?
This is one of the most frequently asked questions from clients. You may have asked it yourself. Rather than offer the "one size fits all" answer, here are some reasons for considering the cumulative effect of reflexology for your personal health and wellness goals.
Health challenges are often a part of life for months and even years -- often many years. When clients choose weekly or bi-weekly sessions, and make these a priority over a span of months and in some cases years, they often experience amazing results. (Some sessions may bring nearly indiscernible baby steps. Other times the client is amazed at the dramatic changes.) By allowing their whole being to enter that deep state of relaxation on a regular basis they encourage their whole body toward greater health and wellness for a lifetime.
Sometimes new clients "try" a few sessions over 6 or 8 weeks time expecting to see significant results for their long-term challenges. They become disappointed and choose to stop with reflexology. From experiences in my practice, I know that those with the most awesome stories to share are those who have chosen to continue regular sessions for months and longer, believing that positive changes are occurring within their body. Ultimately, they are most often rewarded with enhanced health and wellness.
New energy patterns are introduced into the body through reflexology. These are helping to bring all systems of the body into greater balance and strengthening the immune system. Consistent regular sessions help to maintain this enhanced state of health. I have some clients who consider regular reflexology to be their "health plan." They report such great benefits that their body knows when it has missed even one session.
Reflexologists do not diagnose or treat for disease. They do not prescribe or adjust medications. Please consult with your medical professional for your health challenges and concerns.

Several years ago I finally began to come to my senses -- or at least to begin to pay more attention to these five enormous assets. With an often painful home life and being somewhat of a curiosity in my family growing up, I learned to tune out -- well -- almost everything. It was my survival mode. I've learned this great talent is not necessarily my best friend.
Our five senses -- seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and touching -- are so important in our discovery of life around us, and our overall well-being. A few days ago I posted a link on my Facebook page, briefly outlining using our five senses to recharge. Intrigued by this article because of my personal experiences and light bulb moments, I believed the article would touch others as well.
The article quickly skimmed the surface. In the next several blog posts I choose to be transparent with you, my readers, sharing my story of learning to experience and value the senses more deeply. By sharing, I pray your life my be enhanced as well.

Reflexology - Oasis of His Healing, Loving Presence
In reflexology a scenario like this happens often. Phone rings. Person calling is wondering about reflexology and what it will do for them. They may have multiple health challenges for which they are seeking relief. Many times they have been referred by another complementary health care professional who believes that reflexology may be a very helpful addition to their journey toward health and wellness. I love these calls. They open up opportunities for amazing discussions and offering care and encouragement. What continuously amazes me after these dialouges, is that God in His wisdom and knowledge of each individual and their challenges, has entrusted them to my hands. What a huge responsibility and privilege!
I am always humbled by the opportunity before me. My compassion generally kicks in first. I may ask questions that will cause them to think about their state of health on a holistic level (body, mind & spirit). Lots of those require no verbal answer. I may just let them talk and share what's on their mind, and what they hope reflexology will do for them. I pray, however, that it leads them to feel my sensitivity to what's happening in their lives and that they are speaking with someone who cares about them specifically.
In every reflexology session my gratitude is overwhelming in that I have much more to count on than my own humanly limited resources. Working with each individual in each reflexology session is an acknowledgment over and over again of His healing power moving through my hands at the directive of His Holy Spirit living within me. The positive outcomes often seen are the proof to me of "Divine" intervention.
Setting up my little oasis for reflexology sessions, His Healing, Loving Presence is always invited to be present and active... in "this place and in and through my touch." How thankful, blessed, and humbled I am to acknowledge He is faithfully there every time!!!

Choosing a Reflexologist
There are only a few reflexologists in the Memphis area. There are several more massage therapists and massage venues that are now offering reflexology. The prices run the course from $29 to $100 for one session. What will you get for your dollars, and how do you choose (no matter where you live)?First and foremost, reflexology is not foot massage. While a reflexologist may include some massage techniques, it is not the main focus of his or her work. Once heard reflexology described by another reflexologist as a "moving accupressure." That's not a very scientific definition, but it certainly gives you a clearer picture of the work being done.
A recent article at NaturalNews.com featured reflexology as an effective, drug-free, non-invasive way of reducing tension. Based on the premise that all organs, glands, and parts of your body are mirrored on your feet, reflexology uses very specific touch therapy techniques applied to the feet, encouraging all body systems toward greater balance. Scientific research in the reflexology field offers continuous proof.
With that said, unless a massage therapist has received additional training in reflexology, the quick overview of it in massage school probably does not qualify them as a reflexologist. As a licensed massage therapist, however, they certainly may do reflexology. If you opt for this choice, realize what you think you're getting and what you actually receive may be two quite different things.
Second then, and equally important, ask questions. What are the reflexologist's credentials. What training does she/he have? Is that training both classroom and "hands on?" Are they nationally certified by the American Reflexology Certification Board (board testing required)? (National Certification requires both classroom and "hands-on" training.) Has he/she taken or are they taking advanced reflexology courses to enhance their practice? Are they members of professional reflexology associations? What does the session include? Does the reflexologist's scheduling allow time to take a vital interest in your specific needs? Will you feel like there is a buzzer set while you're in the session? (You know - exactly 55 mins. and it's over.) What extra touches, if any, are included in the session?
Third factor is price. I put this last, because I firmly believe that the reflexologist's skills and time carry value. Pricing says much about the value they place on their services. Depending on where you live (in the U.S.) fees generally range from $50-$100 for a 1 hour session. In light of current economic conditions, it is very tempting to look for the cheapest prices on everything. That is, of course, not always the best value.
The reflexologist who offers deep discounts, just to lure some extra business, may also find themselves resentful for the lack of income they are producing for their time and hard work. It would be difficult to keep from projecting that resentment and frustration on to the client if even in a subtle, non-verbal way. They have devalued themselves and the benefits their service adds to your health and wellness goals.
Massage chains are well-known for their low prices. Just to see, I called one locally and asked about the price of a one hour reflexology session. $39. And then, of course, there were the package deals that made it even cheaper. When I asked if they had a reflexologist on staff, I was met with, "Well, we have people who know how to do it." "Are they trained specifically in reflexology?" I asked. The response: "Well, no, but they know how to do it." I was convinced there are much better choices to be made. (Note: Some of these establishments may have a well-trained reflexologist on staff. I would still be concerned about the low value they have placed on their time and their skills to work for so little.)
At Footsteps In Eden Reflexology instead of offering deep discounts we offer what we believe is an awesome value for investing your budgeted health and wellness dollars with us. We have endeavored to create a wonderfully relaxing and "soothing to all your senses" experience for our clients. We offer sessions 30, 60, and 75 minutes in length. The 60 and 75 minute sessions include some extra touches our clients seem to truly enjoy. Our sessions are usually scheduled with 30 minutes between, so that no one need be stressed. We prefer punctuality, but everyone has those days they are running a few minutes behind. Many times, too, there is just a reason or two we would like to indulge our clients a few extra minutes of our attention. And there's time to take care of the necessary business details at the end without the client feeling pushed out the door.
Lynn Watson (Footsteps In Eden Reflexology) is a Registered Certified Reflexologist (State of TN Health Related Boards). She is Nationally Board Certified, studied reflexology at Laura Norman School of Reflexology (Boca Raton, FL), holds certification from both Laura Norman's School and Healthflex School (Knoxville, TN) and additional Certification in Maternity Reflexology from Soul to Sole Reflexology (United Kingdom). Maternity certification indicates competence in reflexology support for preconceptual care (including sub-fertility challenges), antenatal care, birthing preparation, postnatal care, and newborn baby care. She has taken course work in a Plantar Fasciitis specific reflexology protocol. Lynn also holds an international certificate in aromatherapy from Pacific Institute of Aromatherapy (San Rafael, CA) and is a member of the Reflexology Association of America, the Tennessee Reflexology Association, and the Association of Bodywork and Massage Professionals, and has been featured in local news media in Memphis, TN. Encouraging Reflexology for Prevention & Wellness

Looking for effective new ways to promote Footsteps In Eden Reflexology. Your suggestions are welcome. What would attract you to make reflexology a part of your regular wellness plan? (Click on above link to learn all about the potential benefits of reflexology, and read the testimonies of others' experiences.)
There is much wisdom in the old proverb: "An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure." We are all finding ourselves in a position of seriously considering the choices we make in spending our hard earned dollars. The health care debate rages on. Wherever you stand on that issue, there are still serious considerations about where the system will leave any of us in our time of health crisis.
Reflexology is so beneficial in bringing balance to all the systems of our body and working holistically (body, mind, and spirit) to encourage our bodies toward health and wellness. Clients who have made reflexology a priority every week or every other week, have reported their continuous state of enhanced well-being. They often tell me how much their body has reminded them of its loss, when they have had to reschedule appointments, and their have 3-4 week or longer intervals between sessions.
What is this contribution to their wellness costing them? Three session packages at Footsteps In Eden are $165. That's a mere $55 per session of reflexology and supreme pampering -- 75 minutes in all. So that comes to $105-$210 per month. I so often hear of those who are spending $500 or more per month on meds (even with insurance). Is this investment in your health today worth potentially less need for the medical intervention and expense of it in the future? I believe it is.

Do you Believe a Tax on Sodas Would Help the Childhood Obesity Crisis?
Childhood obesity is a growing problem in the US. Does that disturb you? It certainly is scary when you think of all the health problems associated with the extra pounds, and these children will be at risk at a very early age. The figure is that about 30% of American kids fall into this category and the number is rising. Some of them are severely obese. Sadly, I remember as a child that the few fat kids were pretty much the object of other kids' jokes as well -- at the very least, they were not usually among the popular kids and rarely chosen for anyone's team. In this Washington Post article you can read about this growing problem and some initiatives being taken to address it.
Another article in the Washington Post that came to my attention this week focuses on one aspect: SODAS! There are those who would like to place a stiff tax on sodas sweetened with sugar and high fructose corn syrup. While I'm not sure exactly what my opinion is of this idea, it might at least give parents a reason to pause and reflect on the choices they are making to feed themselves and their families.

Prevention and Naturopathy Offer Another Option to the Healthcare Issue
An apple a day keeps the doctor away, or so the little saying goes. There may just be something to the ounce of prevention plan.So much controversy surrounds the healthcare issue. There is probably no one in this country that would say everything with our current health care system and the pharamaceutical companies and health insurance companies is AOK. Right now the pendelum seems to be swinging between the extremes. All the screaming at town hall meetings and the heated discussions on facebook and other social networking media makes for some interesting entertainment, but hasn't resolved much of how we will actually be taken care of. I for one am very concerned. Not knowing at all the future of healthcare availablity in our country is only one part of the issue. Whether healthcare is availabe or not, I believe that our health is something for which we must personally take responsibility. We eat the Standard American Diet, get little exercise except our fingers walking on the keyboard, and we live in a toxic laden world. This is a pretty good Rx for being sick and needing healthcare. Is there another side to this pic we might consider?
The one area that keeps flashing images in my mind mind is that of prevention and holistic remedies. Keeping our bodies healthy and in optimum condition in the first place would, most likely, reduce the necessity to seek out medical attention. Eating locally grown (usually closer to organic) and organic foods, finding a form of exercise we love and fits our lifestyles, and doing our best to remove toxic chemicals from our homes are a few means to that end. Naturopaths, Bodywork specialists, herbalists and more have some pretty amazing therapies to offer to further enhance your wellness experience.
When medical intervention is called for where do you turn? The chic website has a whole article devoted to holistic remedies vs those of traditional medicine. Yes, the holistic remedies are a bit slower. However, while pharmaceuticals quickly address symptoms, the root cause is often neglected only for the condition to return again later. Personally I've had some experience with this resently.
First let me say that I am extremely thankful for the pharmaceutical drugs that saved my life when I was delicately and barely hanging on to life several weeks ago. Once the symptoms were addressed and my body's systems were somewhat stable, however, it was time to address the real culprits that had invaded my body. The bacteria that had entered through a seriously infected allergic reaction gone bad were still there. We found so many testimonials of the cellulitis part of this whole mess I was dealing with coming back over and over again when the phramaceutical drug rounds were completed.
My desire is for a permanent healing. For that I consulted with a naturopathic doctor who suggested some natural antibiotics and diuretics. While my recovery has been very slow, I have seen some improvement every single day. After about nine weeks the infection is almost gone, and I believe it is a complete healing rather than the temporary fix I was experiencing with the pharmaceuticals. This will be followed up shortly with a detox program.
I am not a doctor, I do not practice medicine, I do not diagnose or treat illnesses. I have shared my own experiences and a few of my personal opinions along with a link to an article that has investigated some health condition specific traditional vs homeopathic remedies. I see this as the future for those truly interested in living a long and productive life.

ALIVE! -- Returning to the Blog World

Last post on health & wellness or anything was May 26th. After a 2 month hiatus, perhaps a little explanation is in order.
With thanksgiving to an awesome Heavenly Father who provides healing and makes us ALIVE! in Him, I'm still here to give Him the glory.
A fine line between life and death...an allergic reaction gone terribly bad in early June, found me in the hospital receiving super gargantuan mega-doses of the drugs I prefer to avoid. With a diagnosis of strep induced toxic shock syndrome and celluliltis, I'm very grateful that these were available as a life saving measure.
For someone who just doesn't do sick well at all, the patience it is taking to arrive at complete recovery has been challenging indeed. The first month was just a blur. As I've begun working again and keeping the grandchildren a bit, I'm slowly getting back into my routines. That means ALIVE! will come back to life!!!!
Looking forward to sharing more great thoughts on life and living it to the fullest -- making the most of each new day, and finding ways to stay healthy and well in body, mind, and spirit. Meet me here. Kindly, leave comments along the way.

Four Veggie Servings in One Tasty Meal!!!
Do you observe a daunting image when you study the food pyramid? After all, it is recommended that you include 3-5 servings of just vegetables, 2-3 servings of meat, fish, beans, poultry, nuts, and 6-11 servings of bread, cereal, rice, and pasta. Some real creativity is definitely in order to include all of these (and more) in one day's menu, and it's recommended we eat like this everyday to help our bodies maintain or improve good health. What a great find: A full meal recipe (pictured above) from another Memphis blogger promoting health and wellness. Would you believe, 4 servings of veggies, 1-2 servings of rice, and 1-2 servings of fish? And, YES, it was tasty as could be. The hint of sweetness from the maple syrup on the salmon was delightful! Thinking of spinach generally brings to mind images of the baby spinach salad, but this frozen chopped regular spinach blended with the tomatoes, rice, and steamed carrots was such a treat! And then strips of avocado on the side. The meal was seasoned with additional flavors of dill, fennel, pepper and almond. YUMMY!!!!
Tonya Tittle, owner and director of training at Energy Fitness in Memphis, has several other recipes included on her blog. Be sure to visit and have a taste test. You will find the recipe here. Spending a bit more time on Tonya's blog, I believe you will find some very tasty and healthy new additions to your menus. Some may become your family favorites!

You'll find a beautiful and enticing photo of the prepared dish on their blog. Definitely a healthy choice with portion controls in place.

Don't Have Enough Time? Whose Voices are You Following?
"I Don't Have Enough Time!" How many times have you made that cry? In our 24/7, gadgetized techi world with all of its instant gratifcations whose expectations are we meeting or not meeting? Whose life is more stressed out? (Now that's one we could probably all claim 1st Place in the one-up-manship contest. On the day I was having a BIGTIME "time" meltdown, I also agreed to help lead a women's Bible Study entitled, The Frazzled Female. What I didn't count on was teaching the lesson entitled "I Don't Have Enough Time!" In the book the author states,
In my seminars I ask the question, "What causes you to be frazzled?" "Not enough time" is always at the top of the list. It's probably at the top of yours too.
The author (Cindi Wood) sent us to John 9-12, which included The Parable of the Good Shepherd. In this passage which I know so well, and in a time I made to pull away from everything else to hear from the LORD on this lesson, I believe He did reveal to me a whole new way to look at this Word from THE WORD.
In the story, Jesus begins by talking about sheep knowing their shepherd's voice. The sheep won't follow any other voices, because the know the shepherd will lay His life down for them to protect them. Jesus calls the other voices those of strangers, thieves and robbers wishing harm on the sheep. Of course, He speaks of Himself as THE GOOD SHEPHERD. His sheep hear His voice and follow Him rather than those that would mean them harm. In return the sheep experience abundant life.
When we consider all the possibilities of the day -- all the voices calling our name -- all the activities that seem so important -- and we say let the multi-tasking begin -- Just whose voices are we following anyway? The strangers, the thieves the liars and the cheaters wishing to steal our precious time and energy. They may not even be the big things (probably not). But how about all the little stuff that just isn't that important.
Personally, I spent about 4 hours the week of my time meltdown just shopping for a necklace for a certain outfit that I had a vision about and hoped to wear to an event this weekend. Was it worth it. I can say absolutely "NO." My mission was unsuccessful and in the whole big scheme of things it really doesn't matter. I have another that will be beautiful, and carries no additional cost of precious time and resources. Whose voice was I listening to? The vision of my own crazy flesh and a bit of ego, I'm sure. That voice was a thief. A thief of about 4 hours of my time. That's not a lot, but certainly could have been used in a much more productive way, with much less stress.
When the layers are peeled away -- when we truly give the long "to do" list to The Good Shepherd and follow His voice, I wonder how many items on that list are really that important? He may require us to make some tough choices, but if we follow THE SHEPHERD'S voice He promises,
They may have life, and have it abundantly. John 10:10 (NASB)
I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of. John 10:10 (The Message)
An abundant, more, better than I ever dreamed of life. That sounds like more than enough time to me! WOW!!! Consider consulting THE GOOD SHEPHERD (JESUS) and listen for His voice when choosing how you use your time today. You may just have more than you ever dreamed of!

The Green Parent - Review of a Great Green Blog
Just found this quite fun and very interesting and helpful blog for those looking for greener ideas for life. "Your Kid-friendly Guide to Earth-Friendly Living" is the subtitle for this refreshing little spot on the great big WWW. Personally, if it isn't kid-friendly, I don't believe it is probably very adult friendly either. In this blog you will find not only the author's green opinions on a vast array of timely and pertinent topics. The blog also includes numerous links to vital information to support the detailed reports being brought your way. Topics range from building, clean air, eco-crafts and green events to healthy eating, pets, schools, reducing waste and about 20 other topics in between. Each topic has been covered in several different posts about different aspects of that topic.
Continuously, I'm excited as I find new resources to share with you to help all of us take better care of ourselves, our lives, our family, our homes and our planet. This blog is one of those resources!!!

Why Does the United States Rank as Only the 37th Healthiest Nation in the World?
The World Health Organization ranks the United States at number 37 in the list of the healthiest countries. Very sad indeed for a country so advanced in so many ways. Those interested in alternative and complementary health options are already well aware of some/many of the reasons this is so. One of my fellow miessence® representatives resently shared this video. The producers of this coming movie/documentary are nutritionists who wish to share some serious truths about health issues in our country today. It is quite a lot to think about, and a small sample of a movie, I believe, you will be making plans to see!
You will find many nutritional products for helping to detoxigy the mody, build immunity, and optimize health at Young Living.

Aromatherapy for Sleep

Aromatherapy oils have shown in many cases to be highly effective when used on the feet to promote health & wellness for the entire body. This was a significant factor in my personal decision to pursue reflexology training. It was my desire to intentionally introduce more people to the therapeutic effects of the oils by using them in a reflexology setting.
The following aromatherapy tip comes directly from a Young Living distributor through the Young Living weekly newsletter. I'm passing it on to you. This is an awesome testimony to the power of Young Living essential oils.
“My husband has a hard time sleeping at night, especially when he travels away from home. He uses lavender and Valor® essential oil blend together on his feet and sleeps all night long!
