Prevention and Naturopathy Offer Another Option to the Healthcare Issue

An apple a day keeps the doctor away, or so the little saying goes. There may just be something to the ounce of prevention plan.

So much controversy surrounds the healthcare issue. There is probably no one in this country that would say everything with our current health care system and the pharamaceutical companies and health insurance companies is AOK. Right now the pendelum seems to be swinging between the extremes. All the screaming at town hall meetings and the heated discussions on facebook and other social networking media makes for some interesting entertainment, but hasn't resolved much of how we will actually be taken care of. I for one am very concerned. Not knowing at all the future of healthcare availablity in our country is only one part of the issue. Whether healthcare is availabe or not, I believe that our health is something for which we must personally take responsibility. We eat the Standard American Diet, get little exercise except our fingers walking on the keyboard, and we live in a toxic laden world. This is a pretty good Rx for being sick and needing healthcare. Is there another side to this pic we might consider?

The one area that keeps flashing images in my mind mind is that of prevention and holistic remedies. Keeping our bodies healthy and in optimum condition in the first place would, most likely, reduce the necessity to seek out medical attention. Eating locally grown (usually closer to organic) and organic foods, finding a form of exercise we love and fits our lifestyles, and doing our best to remove toxic chemicals from our homes are a few means to that end. Naturopaths, Bodywork specialists, herbalists and more have some pretty amazing therapies to offer to further enhance your wellness experience.

When medical intervention is called for where do you turn? The chic website has a whole article devoted to holistic remedies vs those of traditional medicine. Yes, the holistic remedies are a bit slower. However, while pharmaceuticals quickly address symptoms, the root cause is often neglected only for the condition to return again later. Personally I've had some experience with this resently.

First let me say that I am extremely thankful for the pharmaceutical drugs that saved my life when I was delicately and barely hanging on to life several weeks ago. Once the symptoms were addressed and my body's systems were somewhat stable, however, it was time to address the real culprits that had invaded my body. The bacteria that had entered through a seriously infected allergic reaction gone bad were still there. We found so many testimonials of the cellulitis part of this whole mess I was dealing with coming back over and over again when the phramaceutical drug rounds were completed.

My desire is for a permanent healing. For that I consulted with a naturopathic doctor who suggested some natural antibiotics and diuretics. While my recovery has been very slow, I have seen some improvement every single day. After about nine weeks the infection is almost gone, and I believe it is a complete healing rather than the temporary fix I was experiencing with the pharmaceuticals. This will be followed up shortly with a detox program.

I am not a doctor, I do not practice medicine, I do not diagnose or treat illnesses. I have shared my own experiences and a few of my personal opinions along with a link to an article that has investigated some health condition specific traditional vs homeopathic remedies. I see this as the future for those truly interested in living a long and productive life.

The Green Parent - Review of a Great Green Blog

Just found this quite fun and very interesting and helpful blog for those looking for greener ideas for life. "Your Kid-friendly Guide to Earth-Friendly Living" is the subtitle for this refreshing little spot on the great big WWW. Personally, if it isn't kid-friendly, I don't believe it is probably very adult friendly either.

In this blog you will find not only the author's green opinions on a vast array of timely and pertinent topics. The blog also includes numerous links to vital information to support the detailed reports being brought your way. Topics range from building, clean air, eco-crafts and green events to healthy eating, pets, schools, reducing waste and about 20 other topics in between. Each topic has been covered in several different posts about different aspects of that topic.

Continuously, I'm excited as I find new resources to share with you to help all of us take better care of ourselves, our lives, our family, our homes and our planet. This blog is one of those resources!!!

ALIVE! My Morphed Newsletter

SENSE ABOUT SCENTS has morphed. As an Independent Representative of the Young Living Essential Oils company, many received a monthly newsletter via email, SENSE ABOUT SCENTS. Since discovering the wonderful ONEGroup miessence® line of organic skincare and cosmetics, and launching my FOOTSTEPS IN EDEN reflexology business I've seen what I believe are some awesome reasons for morphing that newsletter into this wonderful blog.

Since late October I have been working to bring blog readers helpful information on a variety of health and wellness topics. I've also included links to fun, informative, and educational spots on the web offering products and services I believe my readers will love and enjoy.

When I am forced to categorize this blog, it's under health and wellness, but my readers also find posts and links relating to greening our world, family, spiritual matters, shopping, and more.

In the last couple of weeks I've learned to offer an opportunity for readers to become subscribers. (I'm learning this blogging stuff slow but sure -- smiley face here) I'll be emailing my newsletter list today to introduce them to this expanded version of the newsletter. What an exciting new step for ALIVE!

Is There Mercury in Your Mascara?

So, what is in your mascara anyway? Mercury is not often listed as an ingredient (or it's disguised as something else) on the labels. When this article came across my desktop this morning I was very upset. I was even more upset when I visited the SkinDeep website to look at mascaras listed there.

Whether or not the 400 or so mascaras I found contain mercury, I really do not know. What I do know is that all but a very few fell into the moderate to high concern groups. Many of them rated 6-8 on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the highest level of concern to the consumer.

Now you may have already guessed that I would have a product to share with you that falls in the safer "green" (0-2 concern level) section of the SkinDeep database. Pictured above is the miessence® mascara. This product was in the safest 3% of all mascaras listed. WOW!! I'm certainly thankful that is what is going on my eyelashes these days -- at least on the days I really do add a little enhancement to my middle-age face.

With so many topics I would love to tell you about, I come back to these products often. Please know that my heart is to inform you of the healthier options that are available. Whether you visit ONEGroup's miessence® line and perhaps even become a customer, or choose from another source, I pray that you will consider the safety of the products you use for yourself and your family. This organic company's prominent headline "What is Your Skin Eating?" calls from their homepage. So, WHAT IS your skin eating?

Saving on Organic Foods

Have you discovered just how tasty (and healthy) organic foods can be? We just love that they have so much more flavor, and are better for our bodies too! The price can often be another matter.

Several months ago I joined a wholesale buying club for purchasing natural and organic goods and non-grocery items. It has been wonderful to be able to split cases and share the savings of shopping this way. With great foods on hand, I make fewer trips to the health food grocery where impulse buying often pushes my grocery budget out-of-hand.

These clubs exist all over the country. Look for one near you. . . or become the coordinator for a brand new one, introducing more folks to this great idea.

Certified Organic Cosmetics - Healthy for You & for Our Planet

One discovery I made in a journey full of adventure and misadventure over the past 11 months was Certified Organic Cosmetics. A fellow reflexology student in Florida introduced me to this wonderful company out of Australia. Of course, the organic aspect was the hook for me to look closer. What I have found and share with others is a great line of skin care, body care, cosmetics, and more from this emerging leader now moving into the U.S. market. The company is miessence. Please have a look around. If you love the organic idea, I know you will be as excited as I am about their products. It's always exciting to find products that we use everyday that are wonderful and healthy for ourselves and for our planet. Miessence and the other OneGroup product lines have all measured up to their claims.

What's more this company offers their products through a wonderful home-based business opportunity.
